Some people have bigger hearts.

Sometimes, you see someone in a special light. You realise that the person they are, is splendid. That they bring about the happiest days in your life without doing much, by just only being there... Others ask you repeatedly "What do you see in xyz?" And all you can do is smile secretly, because you know, however eloquent you get, these people are not going to get it- the reason.

Some people expect perfection. Sometimes, they even get it. Others, prefer loving someone so deeply that everything they do, becomes perfect. The perfect smile to lift the dreadliest of days, the eyes, with that immensely mad sparkle. Everything - just right. Slowly they become right, just right!

What can I say, some people just have bigger hearts...

Sparks...

Did I drive you away?
I know what you'll say
You'll say, "Oh, sing one we know"
But I promise you this
I'll always look out for you
That's what I'll do

I say "oh"
I say "oh"

My heart is yours
It's you that I hold on to
That's what I do
And I know I was wrong
But I won't let you down
(Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah I will, yes I will…)

I said "oh"
I cry "oh"

Yeah I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks
And I saw sparks
Yeah I saw sparks

Singing out

La, la, la, la, oh…
La, la, la, la, oh…
La, la, la, la, oh…
La, la, la, la, oh…

COLDPLAY.

What a wonderful song.

C R A S H H H H into me

"You've got your ball
You've got your chain
Tied to me tight, tie me up again
Who's got their claws
In you my friend
Into your heart I'll beat again
Sweet like candy to my soul
Sweet you rock
And sweet you roll
Lost for you
I'm so lost for you
You come crash into me
And I come into you"

I LOVE the way he says "crasssshhhhhhhhhhhh" into me!

A Fine Balance.

I have just finished reading yet another of those "novels" I keep lugging about and have to show the cover to the aah-so-interested people in my day. Usually this interest last only as long as to see that the very heavy book I'm soo engrossed in, is not the latest harry potter/ eragon/dan brown/ bullshit, and thus is returned to me without further comment. During my love affair with Seth's magnus opus A suitable boy, I lost count of the number of people who tried to pull the same joke off " Oh! are you finding a suitable boy for yourself?" ha ha . Fact of the matter is that today's generation of non-readers and their kin, whose entire literary column extends to three or four very famous books/authors are oblivious to the entire joyousness of the good Ole experience of reading a book, the entire span of the days when you live the characters, laugh at their experiences and mourn with them at their misfortunes. Nowadays it is more of a race, so as to say, to read the newest best seller, lest anyone should let the cat out of the bag.

I, when I was younger, steered clear of Indian authors. For me, what they wrote was too close to home. If I read a book, I wanted to be lost in the English scones and the Californian sun. So I read up the usual "English Fiction" stuff... Archer, Sheldon, Follet (my fav!), Grisham (whom I still can't read)...
But how long can anyone read a book with the usual half a dozen murders, a couple of illicit romances, and the everyday million dollars of embezzlement?

And that is when I found A Suitable Boy. I know I sound like i can kiss the earth Vikram Seth walks on, but honestly, this book changed the way I read. My choice of books and thus, a large and significant part of my life. A good book stays with you, and I usually re-read my favourites, but this one book is one I don't want to, for the simple reason that if you were to return to a long lost lover, they would always dull when compared to the memory you had of them . The affair would seem far more glamorous than it was actually, and the second acquaintance, would thus diminish the joy of your first one.

So, anyways, my experience with my first Indian author encouraged me to read more. and that is how i chose Mr Rohinton Mistry, Family Matters. I remember the same feeling enveloped me the last time i read him as is now while reading A fine balance.

The thing about reading any of his works, is that the characters begin to grow on you. You pray that no more misfortunes land up on the poor things, for you would most definitely be heart broken. You rejoice in the small breaks God ( in this case the author) bestows upon them. Mistry has this annoying habit of making an indifferent character likeable, and then killing him off just when you really like him. There is something perverse about the way he kills them off, like flies dropping dead. Maybe I have read such sheltered literature, that such stark brutality left me quite speechless. The whole concept of "happy endings" is obliterated in his brand of writing.

In "A fine balance", more specifically, the story revolves around four central characters. Dina Dalal, the beautiful and headstrong landlady, Maneck- her teenage PG and an immensely likeable and thoughtful boy, Ishwar the sweet-tempered tailor and Omprakash- his hotheaded nephew. It is a tale which starts from the day these four characters meet and paces back and forth, tracing their entire lives and histories to the very day. Thus begins a year in their life, full of so many ups and mainly downs. It is a poignant tale, leaving you quite depressed at some of the things that happen. When Dina Dalal's heart finally begins to melt towards the tailors, I found myself praying that Mr Mistry keeps it that ways. But in the end, I felt that in an attempt to wind up ALL the loose ends, the author has decided a common fate for all, except three, and that is, a grisly death. And the one person who actually deserved it, Thakur Dhamsali, is the only one who keeps appearing in the poor tailors life, periodically, and (to put it rather colloquially), keeps screwing up their plans.

The last chapter has been written, probably when the author realised that he is, in fact quite capable of twisting the hearts of his readers. It has been spun in such a way that he was probably tired of them all, and has in his fatigue resigned them horrible fates including beggary and sudden unthinking death.

That is what I didn't quite like about the book. The rest of the book is written so marvellously, true to his usual style. But I don't know why his characters are always Parsi, and settled in southern Bombay. Maybe its because he prefers to stick to areas that must be familiar to him.
It is impossible to have read his book and not have come out feeling moved. Either depressed, helpless, or happy, because you have also lived the characters.
Another VERY surprising fact is that the book was Oprah's book club choice for 2002. Now i would not have expected that out of the perfectly made up, pastel dressed women who work for Oprah!

But again, like my usual favourites, I will not be recommending this book to anyone. I HATE them not understanding it, and then acting foolishly and telling me "HOW depressing! you have such a morbid taste in art!"

s..l..o..w...

Its slowly descending upon me, the slow realisation. The whole "a journey of a thousand steps must begin with one...."... the whole BLAH! thing... Its such a peculiar place I find myself in. I'm not your typical average college student, bunking class and getting a kick out of it, and then neither am I a typical working women. I despise the formal dress code, and I LONG for Saturdays to wear my Nike's to office. I don't think mature enough for an 18 yr old sometimes and sometimes, I think ( and I can sense it) beyond my not-so-many years. So I'm a weird bundle of contradictions sprinting about town. Wearing unfamiliar formals, and listening to KISS... or reading "Audit Checklist for Companies" and when that gets too much, reading the good ol' JAM!
The days are all speeding fast. I'm waiting for the weekend, and before I know it, its next Wednesday, and I don't know what gulped down the whole past week... for I can't figure out where it went.
And that, in the sweet irony it is, is the BEST thing.... that the days are speeding so bloody fast!

An excerpt from 'The Velveteen Rabbit'

"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real, you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

INFP

I was just browsing through the net, and I stumbled across this "My Personality test"....I know its stupid to believe in them sometimes... those tests like "What dog breed are you?" or "What colour should you colour your head"... but this test is really good.
Okay, so it says I'm a Dreamer..(WHOA! NEWSSS!!!) and that I am introverted, intuitive, feeling and perceiving as oppposed to extraverted, sensing, thinking and jugding...
but what struck me most as true was this,

"An INFP's feelings form the foundations of the individual. They are sacred and binding, in the sense that their emergence requires no further justification. An INFP's feelings are often guarded, kept safe from attack and ridicule. Only a few, close confidants are permitted entrance into this domain."

I realise now that I should have posted the link, for anyone who might want to take the test too....
so here it is,

cheers!

the ruby redness

Does being a part of a whole regard one whole less, incomplete ? That without the one key, I am a locked treasure chest. No one knows the ruby redness of the color of my heart, no one knows the laughter that courses my veins, no one can smile at me like that and get my eyes to twinkle that madly? No one can make me that happy as you, and even if they did, I'd fear to acknowledge it. Does being part of a couple lead you to having no identity without the other part? No one knows my dreams because I have led myself to believe that the one person who cares is you, without you, my dreams, hopes and aspirations are just figments of my own imagination. Without your knowledge, and without your constant witness to my life, I will lose a little bit of myself everyday? Without telling you everything, does it seem that nothing happened? That I sat at home the entire day without lifting a finger.
You are important in my life, I grant you, but why is that I let you be of utmost importance? That without your nod of approval or denial, nothing I do is useful?

Why do I think to myself, "Him! I love him! And until its in his arms that I put my head down to rest, no rest shall ever come to me? I will wander, lost, searching for the oasis of his love."
Why does love have to do anything with possession? If I cannot possess you, I cannot love you. What ideals are these? Whose ideals are these? Why can't I claim to love you even if you don't? Why must I have to love you only if we are together, officially? As if to tell the world, Yes! We are together.... you can quote us.

About winter, happy smiles and drying flowers.....

Lately, I've been getting news about people falling in love from all quarters.... old school friends, college pals, colleagues, cousins, you name it- and they've fallen in love! Its so cool! I feel so nice to see everyone coupling up....and though I'm otherwise occupied (ie, too much work, I'm married to my books!).... I'm just loving it!

Its getting fractionally colder, and people are pulling out their pull overs. The air is getting crispier and I keep needing moisturiser. After monsoons, I like winters second best, because its such a nice time to walk in the afternoon sunshine. I remember, when I was nine and was down with chicken pox in the winter, and I'd spend all my afternoons in the sprawling lawns updating my "dried flowers" collection.... pressing them into heavy hardbounds, borrowing them from Dad... so things like "World War 2 : Strategy" had a daisy drying on page 257 and a chrysanthemum falling out of page 674....

It's lovely being in a sidewalk cafe on a wintry afternoon, and feeling the sunlight streaming down on cold faces. And smiling stupidly, wearing gaily colored sweaters and sneakers.

Today I was walking down a street early evening, and there was this cute little girl in her school uniform playing about at a bus stop a happy smile faint on her lips. She looked at me and smiled hestitantly, testingly... and I smiled back, because it felt so right....to smile like that- unmindful and without reason...

Churchgate!!!

I love Churchgate station. Random thought, but I love the place. More than anything I love it because there have been many sunny Sunday afternoons that I have spent there, with a truly adored person. Its such a pleasant place, dipped in Sepia. Its nicely deserted on weekends, and its so comforting to sit in a stationery train, hardly filling in, sipping on railway coffee, and talking to your best friend.
I assosciate it with lazy evenings after a shrieky afternoon shopping frenzied at Colaba Causeway with friends. Going back home and thinking how silly everyone still is. And then just laughing madly!
And now, I travel (occasionaly) to and fro to Churchgate, thanks to my office!
What a transition! I miss seju!

take a picture of me!

Presently, I'm auditing a Sikh trust, and to say the very least, its a completely new experience. Though I do like to put down a "lil bit of Punjabi" in my heritage, being in a Gurudwara all the time, is rather new. Eating with loads of people in the langar, covering your head (and being told politely everytime you forget to), visiting the Gurudwara, trying your hand at solving books primarily maintained in Punjabi, and learning about the culture... its all very exciting.

I feel that someone should take a picture of me!

Make three wishes....

another beautiful excerpt from one of my fav books....

" You said, 'I love you and my love for you makes any other life a lie.' Can this be true, this simple obvious message, or am I like those shipwrecked mariners who seize an empty bottle and eagerly read out what isn't there? And yet you are there, here, sprung like a genie to ten times your natural size, towering over me, holding me in your arms like mountain sides. Your hair is blazing and you are saying, 'Make three wishes and they shall all come true. Make three hundred and I will honour every one.' "

Jeanette Winterson,
Written On the Body.

Indelible

A bucket of paint, I dip my fingers in the iridescent stuff,
and so do you, we draw on the walls of this empty space,
you drew the wonders of your world, as we'd promised,
and all I could paint, was the wonder of your face.

We drew happiness, and mirth and joy, together
You painted me in colors and I painted in your hue,
You drew me with Chrysanthemums in my hair, laughing,
And for happiness, I painted you.

You daubed paint on every wall, leaving behind your unmistakable marks
You wrote on every nook, and I treasured it so,
You wrote as well, indelible, on me,
But its forbidden love , so it wont show.

Melody of you...

"You're the scent of an unfound bloom
A simple tune I only write variations to
A drink that will knock me down on the floor
A key that will unlock the door
Where I hear a voice sing familiar themes
Then beckons me weave notes in between
A bow and a string, a tap and a glass
You pour me till the day has passed.... "

Life...

"Imagine life is a game in which you are juggling five balls. The balls are called work, family, health, friends, and integrity. And you're keeping all of them in the air. But one day you finally come to understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls— family, health, friends, integrity—are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered. And once you truly understand the lesson of the five balls, you will have the beginnings of balance in your life."

Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas
James Patterson.

I LOVED this book. Its a simply written beautiful love story. It broke my heart, and I gasped because I was surprised that I could be that touched by such a tremendously simple and sincere story. If you're an out and out romantic and adore new families, and little kids, this one's for youuu!
Also, not a usual genre for James Patterson, but he's done a wonderful job.

wrong be your thoughts

wrong be your thoughts, and wrong be your ideals, sacred as they are
If you cannot love me, truly and deep,
You've walked long and you've reached far,
And you still come across to me, in your sleep.
Wrong be your thoughts, leaden be your arms
If they don't strain to hold me , me close
Strange be your name, if not entwined with mine,
And if alone be your love, sunken in woes.
Wrong be your love, if it is not mine,
Empty be your home, without me to make it complete,
Wrong be your thoughts, wrong be your dreams ,
And until from my lips, may sugar never be sweet.
Wrong be those sane thoughts without you in them,
Unworthy be those letters not adressed to you,
Careless be those walks without your side,
Wrong be those thoughts, wrong , without you
Unforgiven, those mistakes not committed to take me,
Unholy, that land, not trodden upon to reach for me,
Darkening that sunshine that doesnt shine upon us together,
And bitter that honey that doesnt pour on you, on me.

My First Pay!!

So, yesterday i.e. 8 November 2007, was the day they handed over my very first and very own pay cheque to me!! All I want to do is to look at it like an indulgent mother looking at her baby! And then show it off to every possible person! I'm 18, and I'm earning (though only stipend), and I'm bloody proud and happy about it!!!

run

"I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right
In all I've done

And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do
I know we'll make it anywhere
Away from here

Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear

Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say

To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbye
I nearly do

Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice
I'll be right beside you dear

Louder louder
And we'll run for our lives
I can hardly speak I understand
Why you can't raise your voice to say

Slower slower
We don't have time for that
All I want is to find an easier way
To get out of our little heads

Have heart my dear
We're bound to be afraid
Even if it's just for a few days
Making up for all this mess

Light up, light up
As if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear, my voice
I'll be right beside you, dear

Quirky

and I LIKE it. So for all those people saying "Why ARE you like this? Grow up! How Weird! "

To them,
"GO TAKE A HIKE, MISTER!"
I don't understand other people's concept of happiness sometimes. And I don't like being told over n over n over n over again how weird I am or how weirdly I think. I can be just as normal as you are, as colorless as you are and as plain as the next person. Walking down brick lanes, I can choose not to play hopscotch. I can choose to stand properly in the bus. I can choose to pretend I like something I don't. I can choose to be dishonest when I'm not. I can choose to fall for some sensible guy. I can choose the pale pink over the over-the-top red. I can choose to act like a grown-up. And I can choose to sit normally, smile docilely, and not act upon the various naughty things that I keep thinking of. I can choose to have deadened eyes. I can choose to be mature, sensible and everyday.
But I choose to be me. And I like it. YOU telling me "Grow Up" is not going to make me. I have enough reality in my life without adding some more of yours. I like to think the world is a pretty place with honest people. Life is terribly plain, and I like to liven mine up this way. SO for goodness's sake, get a life and stop telling ME to grow up.
Love Me- Love My Quirkiness.

November Rain

its november and its raining.
and i would have felt like singing 'November Rain', had it been a slightly happier song. I hear the raindrops fall on the metal ledge of my window, and I run out to the terrace in the blue moonlight, dark night. But the rain is not even that. Its a slight drizzle. And soon its gone. My hair isnt even damp. The cottons not marginally soaked. And I've played on the wet granite, but im not wet. I've danced nimbly in the dark night in the grass, and emerald drops form on those blades on grass, barely.
nothing lasts forever , eh?

WALKING ON SUNSHIIIIIIIINNNNNEEEEE!!!!!

Does being happy need a reason? Can we just be childish and jump around as if high on caffiene? Today I was at a mall and I was bubbling inside. For no apparent reason. Can I honestly claim that talking to you made me that happy? I dont think you're all the reason . I wanted to jump around. Wanted to be five and pretty in a pink dress. Wanted to stand on a road divider between whizzing cars and sing some loud song. Wanted to smile at every unknown face. (Which I did as well!! and all those kind men offering me to try out perfumes probably though I was flirting with them!) Wanted to do something radical. Had anyone asked me if I wanted to go to Europe, drop everything and just go, I would have run to the airport!!
Its so much fun currently! Being as I am, flabby arms and everything! I'm on a happy mood upswing! I want to dance with everyone on the street. Give away my seat on the bus to the fat oily gujju lady and dance all the way home with the conductor!

I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
I'm walking on sunshine (whoa oh)
And don't it feel good (HEY!) Alright now
And don't it feel good (HEY!) Alright now
All right now yeah! (HEY!)

Some songs, unless you're really happy sound absurd! This is another such song!

I feel the love, I feel the love, I feel the love that's really real
I feel the love, I feel the love, I feel the love that's really real

I wish I felt like writing more about it, I was experiencing the whole thing as if it were a blog entry. But now, I dont feel like writing about it.

im loooooooooooooooooooooooooooosing you!

".....This is a blind kind of love
Oh oh oh, the sweetest thing

I'm losing you
Whoa haaa, I'm losing you

Ain't love the sweetest thing
Ain’t love the sweetest thing
Ain’t love the sweetest thing
Ain’t love the sweetest thing ?...."

The ONLY U2 song I adore!!! Its the sorta song that makes you want to break out into a Karan Johar movie-type song... suddenly jump and click your heels, or twirl around poles in happiness!! Or fling your arms in sheer exuberance and want to envelop the whole world in your embrace! Or do an extremely well choreographed little jig.
BASICALLY, this song makes me happy!!

Are you lonesome tonight?

Elvis Presley. I have never felt so completely touched by a person's voice ever before. In the middle of this song, its more of a monologue, and its been written so beautifully, anyone could fall in love with the person who's written them. (Or Presley for singing them like that!)

(Words & music: Roy Turk / Lou Handman)
"Are you lonesome tonight,do you miss me tonight?
Are you sorry we drifted apart?
Does your memory stray to a brighter sunny day
When I kissed you and called you sweetheart?

Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare?
Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?
I wonder if you’re lonesome tonight
You know someone said that the world’s a stage
And each must play a part.
Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart.
Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance
You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue
Then came act two, you seemed to change and you acted strange
And why I’ll never know.
Honey, you lied when you said you loved me
And I had no cause to doubt you.
But I’d rather go on hearing your lies
Than go on living without you.
Now the stage is bare and I’m standing there
With emptiness all around
And if you won’t come back to me
Then they can bring the curtain down.

Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again?
Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?"

There is that something about those old hollywood romances. The proper-ness and the cliched-ness of it all. Its heart-breakingly sweet. There are few things better than an out-an-out romantic film/book/song. Something plain and simple, but so beautiful in its simplicity.
The Hero is always a Robert Redford, and the heroine is just the prettiest. He's all macho, and she's chiffon-and-ribbon frail . Its so perfect.

No wonder everyone loves Mills n Boons. Its just a bit of Paris in everyday life! It appeals to almost all uncycnical, romantic females because probably we all would want that Paris in our lives. But we're grounded, and the fountains of Veinna are reserved for a whirlwind trip of Europe (in 14 days!), so whats wrong with a li'l old fashioned romance, even if it is in a dog-eared paperback? It's so nice to put down a book with a huge grin on your face!

potty on potter!!!! LOL

I don't understand how people can accept shit that people write in the name of magic, but wont accept love as magical. And how can ANYONE accept liking a book, or a series of books, that a confirmed non-reader reads? Case in point being Harry Potter. I cannot stand them anymore. Partly because its a whole lotta crap, secondly because the dog on the footpath reads Harry Potter. By that I mean, EVERYONE, everyone, everyone has read those books. AND NOT because they like to read, or because they found it by trial and error, but just because it's a craze. Because everyone from a 7 yr old to a 70 yr old reads it, and they all feel kicked about reading a book with 782 pages. (WOW! ). She writes well, no doubt. Fast and exciting, but is that all reading is about? A book like that doesn't stay with you. Though everyone MUST buy alllll seven books, and must regard them with reverence, how many people actually re-read them? With immense and increasing reluctance I read the 5 and 6 th book, solely because I was damningly free. (AND trust me, I can't remember what happens in either!) But the seventh book, I refused downright. Probably someday, when I'm old and wrinkly and I want to know what finally happens to that potter boy, or I want to converse about books to absolute nincompoops, I'll read them. But till then, Potty on potter!!! LOL

(Hey! I just sounded like a first class bookish snob!...YAYYY! THAT is something I wont bristle if you call me!)

random musings.

So, I have been travelling to and fro Chembur for a week, and needless to say, I've had loads of time to ponder bout stuff. And to day dream. But no time to blog! So I'm just probably going to ramble today -there's this huge list of things I've been dying to write.

Yesterday I saw this little cute girl of about 5 very obviously happy because she was wearing a very pretty dress. I don't know what it is about young girls, but put them in a pink frilly frock, and you have instant happiness running about!! The frillier the better. Ask any 3-9 year old her favourite color, and it IS pink. I remember, birthdays were all about one thing, getting to wear that new pink frock, with those pink shoes!! LOL. (yeah so maybe, some girls were the exception and played those horrible WWF cards, but yes the majority of the cute little girl fraternity loved pink in all its variants)

Also, I believe in Gaurdian Angels. I read ' The Valkyries' (Paulo Coelho) recently and it was all about finding your angel . And I believe in signs. So when I'm walking along an unfamiliar track, and I see something I like, or love, I take it as a sign- that I'm on the right track... its funny how a tiny insignificant thing can be so reassuring....

A few days back I was in a dilemma, very complicated. And I was sitting in this stationary train at Churchgate, with my head in my hands. Too tired and too confused to figure out what I should do. And then I made a decision. Making that decision set me free. I got down so happily from that train, and there was a joyous bounce in my step. It was almost like my angel was leading me, helping me. And inspite of the horribleness I had to do after that, I was maha-pleased with myself.

Sitting in the pools of your sheets.

Sitting in the pools of your sheets, resting my head on your pillow,
What am I without your love, without your merest illusion?
Drinking from your lips, following your paths,
If it isn't love, it must be devotion.

Standing in your bathwater, living in your embrace,
Travelling in your city, wearing your cotton,
Listening to your voice, walking on your land,
The only thing that is mine is the dreams I've spun.

Holding your hand, following your lead,
Unburdened, free- love is freeing me unto you,
Carefree, reckless, fierce like the Sun,
Deeper than my blood, deeper into you.

Everytime I open a book to study, a hurriedly-jotted down poem pops out of nowhere! And the only time I can write anything of substance is when my exams are abt to begin... Needless to say, I cn never give away my notebooks to people. Maybe someday I'll compile all these lil smippets together and make an actual book.

a particle of an article!

So, FINALLY working!! The days that we have been anticipating/ dreading/looking forward to in equal proportions, are finally here! Yesterday was my first day at work! And by the time I reached home I was so dead tired (this is just to explain yesterday's quick-dash entry). Today was less exhaustive that ways. I sat with the entire ledgers cross checking them three times. And using Tally!
I'm sitting amidst all the accountants in this huge company's accounts dept, in a tiny corner called "Internal Audit" and I can hear noises which are so unfamiliar. I SO don't belong! And all the time that I'm entering records in Excel, crossing them over in Tally, I range from feeling utterly proud of myself (How grown up!) to feeling a sense of extreme loss. Because all I can see is numbers and figures. And accepting these into my life, has in a way, bid adieu to the words I longed to see. Out of the blue, I think "Wtf am I doing here, sitting between all these men?"
And the very next minute I feel, "Wow! I know this stuff! and I can see my life heading into accountancy glory! yahoooo!! "

casablanca

Parents influence, among many other things our choices for music when we are growing up. Before the acid rock hits us and before the music volumes are unbearable for our parents. I remember my father played his favourites and my mom and dad slow-danced to "Beautiful Tonight" by Eric Clapton every so often.
There are many beautiful songs that remind me of him, and I like Wham!, or The Police, or Bryan Adams because these are the songs I grew up listening to.
Theres this sweet song tucked away in memory I love listening to. Its called Casablanca, by Bertie Higgins (or Frank Sinatra) depends on the version you can find online.
Its so cute, do listen to it!

"I fell in love with you watching Casablanca
Back row of the drive in show in the flickering light
Popcorn and cokes beneath the stars became champagne and caviar
Making love on a long hot summers night

I thought you fell in love with me watching Casablance
Holding hands 'neath the paddle fans in Rick's Candle lit cafe
Hiding in the shadows from the spies. Moroccan moonlight in your eyes
Making magic at the movies in my old chevrolet

Oh! A kiss is still a kiss in Casablanca,
But a kiss is not a kiss without your sigh.
Please come back to me in Casablanca,
I love you more and more each day as time goes by"

so cute!

OOOH!

"Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladen, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss

Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I"

Pink Floyd, Learning To Fly.

Now, today I think this song is apt. Things are changing and I'm on the threshold of a monumentous change in my life. And I'm frightened because the road ahead is unknown. (I feel so melodramatic!) But its a big thing! I'm starting WORK! LOL! And, I'm learning to fly.
There's a song for everything, isnt there!

Def Leppard- Love Bites

This is, according to me, The Reason why God sent Def Lep to Earth!!! Seriously, were you to have half an ear, and love for 80's slow rock, this would be YOUR fav song as well. Its just so awesome.
I remember seeing it this August on Vh1, and for a song that released in 1987, thts something!
Someone on sing365.com reviewed it like this, and I couldn't have said it better myself!

" Love Bites is so sexy and alluring as my title says. A concert I recently attended definitely showed the electricity with this song. Every woman that had a mate was busy grinding them and was so into the lyrics of the song. The song is so magical and can transform a woman into an animal!!! "

Hmm, now this person got a lil graphic, but its true!
My fav lines are these- I love the way they've been sung

"I don't wanna touch you too much baby
'Cos making love to you might drive me crazy
I know you think that love is the way you make it
So I don't wanna be there when you decide to break it

No!"

Actually this entire song is one long sigh! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhh....

this is the album Hysteria ('87) one of their best.

hush, hush, darlin

Last night I had a dream, a recurring one if u please. About this little boy who is running and running straight at me. Crying like the little child he is. And I don't know who he is, but my heart goes out to him, so I hug him and try to placate him into being calm. But he's hurt, and so he's pouring his heart out. And so moved am I, that I begin to tear up as well. I woke up with a jolt. I wish he'd stop crying first.

music in my ears...

This is something that I've always wondered. If people wear headphones all the time while travelling, doesn't it take away from hearing the myriad sounds of the streets. As I walk to college in the morning, I see people with headphones beginning from their ears and their wires snaking into pant-pockets. Don't they want to hear what all they miss out? The streets are alive with sounds of the city. (LOL! Hey I dont live in Austria like her!) The birds frantically calling out, the hurried cars whizzing about, the friends on a morning walk, the little school children discussing homework ("5 ka table likhna tha..."), the lovers' early morning spat...all these sounds, would you want to miss them out?

Now, as far as music lovers go, I'm a pretty big one. My "first thing in the morning" is to put on my stereo (AAH! the joys of sleeping alone!)... and I HAVE to HAVE my 'current favorite track' playing in the background at all times. But I've lost track of the times I've declined the "Beta, chuck the cell phone, Ill get you an I pod instead". (Which I still think is a rather crappy thing, whatever you say!)...And I don't have a music phone either (I will ALWAYS love you Bobo, the cutest cell phone in the world!), but I don't want to belong to the people who do that. Walk around with music in their ears.

The primary reason I write this, is because, travelling is when I actually think. And read. I come up with most of my blog entries while walking. With most of my poems, and almost every weird idea that I get. I love walking and talking to myself. Its a very therapeutic thing. According to Paulo Coelho, a simple thing like that is akin to speaking with your angel (The Valkyries). So I'd like to not have music then.

And read. What IS better than reading the heavy book to and fro college/class/etc, wherever? I remember lugging around Seth's A Suitable Boy for 3 weeks everywhere I went. (1349 pages, hardbound-NOT a small job!). Fewer things are better than a long bus journey, a comfortable seat, and a good book. (Just remember to tell the Conductor to tell you when to get down... I speak from Experience!).

Now, all this might change were I to be flashy enough to carry a I pod, or whatever is the IN thing currently as of 5/10/2007... or to have a phone with my music collection. When does the mind wander off to un-thought-of things? When do I read the ever growing stack of books I must? Oh, Lord, when do I think of the dearly beloved as well? And most importantly, when do I come up with entries as senseless as this?

LILIAN

oooh, please do listen to this song. Its ...plaintive. (oo!) Its not the song I was looking for, but Depeche Mode's good, and this guys singing in a very low voice. Its sexy.

Oh, Lilian
Look what you've done
You've stripped my heart
Ripped it apart
In the name of fun

Oh, Lilian
I'm a poor man's son
And precious jewels
Weren't found in schools
Where I came from

Pain and misery always hit the spot
Knowing you can't lose what you haven't got

Oh, Lilian
I should have run
I should have known
Each dress you own
Is a loaded gun

Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian

I need protection
I hear your voice
And any choice I had is gone

Oh, Lilian
Once I begun
I couldn't stop
'til every drop of blood was sung

Pain and misery always hit the spot
Knowing you can't lose what you haven't got

Oh, Lilian
Look what you've done
You stripped my heart
Ripped it apart
In the name of fun

Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian

a lovely love song.

I don't want a break-up sad song. I want to find a song about being in love. I want to write a song about being loved. How is it that I'm searching for a new favourite song? I don't want a song where she's sad, or he's sad. I want to find a simple sweet song about both of them being happy that they are in love. Nothing to do with pain. Nothing to do with longing. Nothing to do with being "too far away". I want to find a song where they're just happy. No "Stay here tonight". Why have people stopped writing about love? And if they do, why aren't they happy about it?
Something beautiful. Something about strumming guitars. Something about you. Why doesnt my brain function like it used to once upon a time. I never thought about you, but I could've written the most beautiful love song. Now all it does, is think of you, and come up with crappy poems. I cant call myself a poet anymore. And thus, I search the internet.
How saddening is it?

oh, lilian.

October 01, 2007

i like.

Now I like this. I like this part of the day. Early evening, no one home, no one online, nothing of importance to do other than blog. and listen to music. and read. Sometimes go out into the world. But if you know me you know how much I'd rather sit at home and think.

Another part of the day I really like is after dinner. Everyone retires into their own rooms, and since I've long given up on TV, I sit in my cubby-hole sweetheart, and listen to music. Just that. Sometimes Coldplay, sometimes cranberries. Occasionally in the dark as well. And I try to write. Because someone told me "Find out what you want to do, and go out and do it." This was when I was hopelessly wailing to him that my life lacks direction. (the whole "I'm lost" teenage sob story). But he's so patient to hear me out. I like him for that. A lot.

I like Yellow. By Coldplay. Yesterday, I put it on repeat and forgot all about everything else. What a lovely song. Though I still don't know why exactly yellow, but its just right. It makes sense. Coldplay is a band you listen listen to relentlessly, forget all about them, and suddenly suddenly, you WANT to listen to them. And so you rush, to your computer, or wherever you keep your music and since you must, you're lost in them again.

"I like you. I do love you, or that is what I tell myself, but I do like you too. "
The first time I realised there was a difference between liking and loving was when I was 12 and heard a song by Right Said Fred. It went like this "We love you but we don't like ya,/Don't like ya, don't like ya,/We love you but we don't like ya."
And that's when I figured there was a difference. I just presumed liking someone a lot, lot led you to loving them. But that's not how it is. At least not now. Childhood is a distorted place. Anyways, you could love someone and not like them. At least you wouldn't like them if you didn't already love them. Like family. If you weren't taught to love all family, come hell or high water, would you? Would you be friends with all your cousins if you had a choice? But currently, you love them.
OK, enough with love.

I like stringy yellow lights. Somehow I have never liked the colourful ones people put up. The ones that go "Green-Blue-Red-Yellow FLASH FLASH Green-B-Y-R FLASH thrice now". I like the ones that stay bulb yellow, are tiny and don't do jiggly dances. They're more romantic.

I like Michael Hutchence. One of my "Self Deserved Treats For Great Efforts Put In To Be A Good Girl" include listening to "Beautiful Girl" by INXS at full volume. Aaaaah! To have lived on this planet and not have listened to Michael Hutchence croon. How devastating! (OK, I know I'm going overboard).

oh, wht a colossal waste of time. But like I said, I like this

down down down down down down

the nearness of you

"Distance is no obstacle to love. In the ocean depths blue whales send sonic serenades across thousands of sonar miles. When two hearts are apart, they are still indissolubly joined, just as "twin compasses are two" separated to trace out different circles yet never doubting they will be reunited. Love is so loyal that it does not need to be present to prove it. Love knows that moments of aloneness refresh and reinforce it; it passes the surest test "for a bond between two people :that each protects the solitude of the other."

Love- the feel good factor

Perceptions

We all are tied down by perceptions, aren't we? By what we think of ourselves, by how the people who know us think we are. I am so different with different people. In any relationship, we assume roles. I think of you this way and were you to change that idea I'd tell you " You've changed!" never mind if that is the way you have always been. But that was not the way you have been with me. In certain company, we are expected to behave certain ways. Childish, grown-up, foolish and fool-hardy, talkative- the non-stop, and the quiet one. And because we are expected to, we go and lead them on. If you want boring out of me, that is what you get.

I KNOW the things you say. Sometimes I can predict conversations and they turn out exactly the way they were in my head. But if they didn't, I don't know if I'd like the change. You are a person I count on, would I like it if you suddenly got sarcastic with me and snapped? Or would I like it if you weren't sarcastic all of a sudden? In a way, the person I'm in love with is a person inside my head. If I were someone else, I'd probably not see the special person that I perceive you to be. Oh what a loss. To not see you in this beautiful light I do.

And it works both ways. I know the answers people expect out of me. When someone says "Hws you maaaan? Wassups?" How many times have I replied saying the truth and not a pre-programmed answer? We will reply saying "I'm good. what bout you? Wassups?" Evn if the true answer is "I'm utterly saddened by the state of things I find myself in. Nothing's up. The only thing up is my manic want to kill the person who started this trend of sayin "Wassups?"...

We live in a beautiful world with the most beautiful perceptions about it.

a teenagers life

Firstly, I wish that as girls stepped into late teens, there was this Help manual we were handed out by some pretty angel, called "A 1001 Mood Swings- And How To Cope".
The same people who were 'cute with concern' one minute ago are suddenly assholic, you wonder why you EVER spoke to them in the first place, that they'd take a hint and get out of your life ASAP.
The same joke will invoke a violently different reaction, sometimes you will want to kill the same person, and other time you think that they ARE the reason you are.
AAARGGGHHHH!!!

Secondly I wish, people would stop telling me to grow up. How is it that they don't realise that THIS is where I WANT to be. EVERYONE has to grow up. We're only young for so long, one day everyone realises that "F*cking shit! I'm oollddd!"... why would you want the realisation to come earlier?

AND if, wanting to play in the rain, wanting to color with crayons, loving Candy-floss, laughing openly, stating precisely what I want and throwing a tantrum if I don't get it, is childish and immature (which it is), so BE it. But I like it that way. Its the thing with the younger kid, (Hey! we didn't get the one million snaps, we got the tantrums!). I'm not here to gray and wrinkle before I have to!
AAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHH !!!!

Thirdly, I WISH people took hints. SERIOUSLY big ones. Like "For the thousandth time, I don't want to talk about it." Pretty precise, you'd think. BUT some people DON'T listen! And there are those ones, you'd pray they'd just bloody understand. sadly.

AAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Why dont they publish "A Guide to Understanding A Teen?"
and if they have, why dont people read it?!

Stringing them together with bolts of thunder.

fireworks

Tonight, there are fireworks in the sky. Something to do with Ganesh Visarjan. There's something so romantic about fireworks. Something happy and joyous. I like only a few things more than lying in bed in darkness and looking at the fireworks in the sky. (I have a Diwali ritual for it as well) It makes sense today, I had a wonderful day. Something about stars in your eyes, fireworks in the air. Pretty, isnt the world today?

dear, my love

"Dear my love, haven't you wanted to be with me ?
And dear my love, haven't you longed to be free ?
I can't keep pretending that I don't even know you
And at sweet night, you are my own
Take my hand...."

Evanescence, Anywhere.

Where is all this going? And does it even have to? Why is it all "lets see kya hota hain"?... I wish I had the courage to take my life in my own hands! OH, how!

"I have dreamt of a place for you and I
No one knows who we are there
All I want is to give my life only to you
I've dreamt so long I cannot dream anymore
Let's run away, I'll take you there"

September 19, 2007

There is no pain, you are receding

Out of the entire song, this is the line that got stuck in my head. Weird, I'd say the song's been written so beautifully, there are better things said by the band. With the magnificent vocals and astounding guitar solos this song is one of the best classic rock songs ever.

"The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
but I have become comfortably numb."

My father, he listened to Pink Floyd a lot, and now, suddenly today I wanted to see wht they were all about. But then, he always had great taste in music!

By The River Piedra I Sat Down And Wept.

"If pain must come, may it come quickly. Because I have a life to live, and I need to live it in the best way possible. If he has to make a choice, may he make it now. Then I will either wait for him or forget him.
Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful.
But not knowing which to do is the worst kind of feeling."

Yes, my mind was wandering. I wished I were there with someone who could bring peace to my heart- someone with whom I could spend a little time without being afraid that I would lose him the next day. With that assurance, the time would pass slowly. We would be silent for a while because we'd know we had the rest of our lives together for a conversation. I wouldn't have to worry about serious matters, about difficult decisions and hard words.

"It's risky, falling in love."

"I know that," I answered. "I've been in love before. Its like a narcotic. At first it brings the euphoria of complete surrender. The next day, you want more. You're not addicted yet, but you like the sensation, and you think you can still control things. You think about the person you love for two minutes, and forget them for three hours.

"But then you get used to that person, and you begin to be completely dependent on them. Now you think about him for three hours and forget him for two minutes. If he's not there, you feel like an addict who can't get a fix. And just as addicts steal and humiliate themselves to get what they need, you're willing to do anything for love."

"What a horrible way to put it,"he said.

By The River Piedra I Sat Down And Wept, Paulo Coelho.

Love, even its illusion has altered my choice of books. Or maybe I've just grown up.
I love this book, its been written in a Classic Paulo Coelho manner, and its just beautiful.

for as long as we both shall live..

Joe Fox: You know, sometimes I wonder...
Kathleen Kelly: What?
Joe: Well... if i hadn't been "Fox Books" and you hadn't been "The Shop Around the Corner," and you and I had just met...
Kathleen: I know.
Joe: Yeah, yeah. I would've asked for your number. And I wouldn't have been able to wait 24 hours before calling you up and saying, Hey, how about... oh, how about some coffee, or drinks, or dinner, or a movie... for as long as we both shall live?

I saw "You've got Mail" recently, again on a lazy Wednesday afternoon... and needless to say, since its pretty much my fav genre, I loved it again. But since this time I was a good 10 years older than what I was when i first saw it, it made sense (other than pretty pictures!)..

So, anyways, there was this scene in the movie, where Joe Fox and Kathleen Kelly, have put their bitter rivalry behind and have become friends, and have just spent a wonderful day in town, in the park...you know, the typical 'romantic comedy' day.... and she's to go to meet her 'net lover'.. the longing and chemistry between them is pretty evident (OF COURSE!!!)..
and then he says this

"Yeah, yeah. I would've asked for your number. And I wouldn't have been able to wait 24 hours before calling you up and saying, Hey, how about... oh, how about some coffee, or drinks, or dinner, or a movie... for as long as we both shall live? "

Its so romantic.. the way he says it, ' for as long as we both shall live?'.. that's the time i think she realises that he loves her (and he acknowledges it...) I love it more, because I agree with it... with the whole concept of 'forever'... or, for that matter, 'for as long as we both shall live'....

Because its uncertain, and difficult and scary, committing yourself to one person (even if life will turn out differently) is a huge thing to do. To love someone enough to want to be with them everyday, is a very big promise that you make. Not only to the party concerned, but also to yourself. I don't want to be judgemental and say "Once you make it, stick with it"... Falling out of love is more commonplace than falling in love. So, I guess its ok. (Infidelity is NOT!) What can you do if you're married to someone, and the love of your life walks into your life? Shouldn't love be more important than a marriage that has lost meaning. I know I write this from a ring-side view, but I do know, everyone has a right to have their perfect love. To live in their world of red construction paper hearts. Everyone deserves it. And so.

nothing else compares!!

The lights go out and I can't be saved
the Tides that I tried to swim against,
Have, brought me down upon my knees
Oh I beg, I beg, and plead, singing.

Come out with things unsaid
Shoot an apple off my head
And a trouble that can't be named
Oh a tigers waiting to be tamed, singing

You are
You are
You are
You are

Confusion that never stops
The closing walls and ticking clocks,
gonna, Come back and take you home
I could not stop that you now know, singing.

Come out upon my seas
the Cursed missed opportunities
Am I a part of the cure?
Or am I part of the disease, singing

You are
You are
You are
You are
You are
You are

And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares
And nothing else compares

You are
You are

Home, where I wanted to go, home
Home, where I wanted to go, home
Home, where I wanted to go, home (you are)
Home, where I wanted to go, home (you are)

Change!!

I can FINALLY feel change!! Its taking roots ans slowly spreading. We're changing, look. Life's changing us. I know its not going to be simple, but I've been stuck at the same place for SO long, any change is better than stagnation.
Finally, I feel that my life has direction, that does not involve one singular person. Like I'm headed *SOME*WHERE!! (The future's in the air/I can feel it everywhere/Blowing with the 'wind of change' )
This year, that I have cursed so much, so far, is finally beginning to make sense!! Yay! Maybe its too early to say anything, but it feels great. I'm seeing myself closer to two of my rather important goals. I'm getting a li'l selfish, and I'm liking it. (Why should I take anyone's bullshit
?!!) I've read some *very* enlightening books.
***
OK, totally different topic, but I hate needy people. I cnt take anyone whining at me "Take my calls, take my calls!!!" ... .dude! I like very few people thoroughly, and its for those ppl that I'd do anything, for the rest, take a hike. I prefer having few close friends, rather than this huge group where I'm lost in the crowd.

I'd rather love and lose, because its worth it. If three minutes with you makes me happier than spending three days with someone, wouldn't I want to live in those three minutes? If your words haunt me, wouldn't I rather cherish them, recall them, and replay them again n again in my mind when someone else is speaking? If the briefest memory of you makes me smile, wouldn't I just stay there? If apples are of your favourite colour, isnt it lovely the way they shine, stare at me, beckoning? Isnt it wonderful, how everything now has something about you?

Why dont people understand that I don't care anymore? Not if they like my profile, or my picture? Neither if they dont. Not if, I dont reply, nor if i dont call? Love, is specific. Why dont they get it?
"Pour forth thy grace into my mind,
This is the day
Pour forth thy grace, thou art divine,
This is the day" cranberries.

Coldplay has this line, I finally know what it means
"NOTHING else compares."

nothing. Love, like I said, is specific. Im in so deep, it'll take me ages to evn begin to comprehend it.

Distance

Well, according to one of my real close friends, "If you can manage the distance in a relationship, thn its the real thing. Because then its not about making out." However crude that is, I do agree. I've seen couples break up at the first hint of a ISD call. And these are people who were vowing marriage and assorted dreams. Which makes me really wonder... Whatever happened to all that love? Its weird. Like I might've mentioned before, I'm old fashioned to a fault, and the concept of a fling is rather alien to me. So.

And whatever happened to "Distance makes the heart grow fonder"

I'd add to tht,
"Its what makes the days grow longer,
Lets lovers long, perilously ponder,
Does it make our hearts stronger? "

long gone

'I think about my life gone by
How it's done me wrong
There's no escape for me this time
All of my rescues are gone, long gone.....'

Richard Marx...

There is something quite desperate in his voice when he sings these lines from the song 'Hazard'... Its so plain with longing...it makes me sad. There is always a time before my exams when these lines come to haunt me!!

These guys - Richard Marx, Michael Hutchence, Sting, Bryan Adams.... all of them have similar sounding voices.... husky and deep....and seriously, plain sexy.

Happiness

Happiness
Happiness, to some, elation;
Is, to others, mere stagnation.
Days of passive somnolence,
At its wildest, indolence.
Hours of empty quietness,
No delight, and no distress.

Happiness to me is wine,
Effervescent, superfine.
Full of tang and fiery pleasure,
Far too hot to leave me leisure
For a single thought beyond it.
Drunk! Forgetful! This the bond: it
Means to give one's soul to gain
Life's quintessence. Even pain
Pricks to livelier living, then
Wakes the nerves to laugh again,
Rapture's self is three parts sorrow.
Although we must die to-morrow,
Losing every thought but this;
Torn, triumphant, drowned in bliss.

Happiness: We rarely feel it
.I would buy it, beg it, steal it,
Pay in coins of dripping blood
For this one transcendent good.

-Amy Lowell.

A beautiful day,...er, night.

A crowded train, at 7 30, Dadar Stn, Weeknight, and I'm right in the middle of this throng of ladies. Its an effortless push into the crowded train. And then changing trains at Mahim, getting off at Bandra, waiting in an snaking queue for a rick(!!). Bombay, early september, so before you're outta the house, you feel wrung out and sticky. Sticky. Thats what anyone who comes to Mumbai for a short while, goes away feeling about it.
Anyways, and so, we go to crosswords, which is somewhere I realllly like to be. The sheer mass of written word excites me. Seeing a book that I have read, and being able to say whether its crap or not, or just looking at all the spines, picking out names, running fingers down lengths.... aaah! A bookstore (or a library) is my second most favourite place to be. (First being home!... I KNOW I'm lame!)
I found this cute li'l book called "LOVE...the feel good factor"...and it was so cute, I HAD to buy it. More so, because I read a line and it said "Love is the gentle art of hearticulture"... and thats what made me pick it up.
After that, we went to this pretty cafe/restaurant called Candies. I think a major part of the place's charm lies in the lighting, which looks straight out of some romantic movie. With soft yellow light streamers in straight parallel lines across the place. It was a cosy-couple(y) place to be, along with great food....and even though, we were the only two best friends among the canoodling crowd, we had a gala time. Its just always wonderful with your best friend! (Alongwith the certainty that you have cleared, and the birth of Julelal!!!)
Nothing outta the ordinary, but I don't know why there was something about yesterday that really struck me. It was sucha lovely time...

Love ya, Chappu with your red glasses!

And to quote something from the book, which Im sure, Ill do with regularity,

" Lavender, rose, ylang ylang, juniper, ginger, chamomile : Love is the best essential oil."

LOL!

blurgh!

We wage wars, we bleed blood that is not ours,
every week, we go wild with wanting and then ,
redeem ourselves , we wage wars.
Like children in a play pen
We sing lovely songs and laugh mirthlessly,
we lose sanity and beckon each other,
don't speak! you dont have to, instinctively
I know you and so, why bother.
Crimson lips fade from memory, and charms fail
across the days we spend alone and hauntingly alone,
crushingly quiet days and trying times prevail
we wage wars, we love like thunder, alone.
disappointment, and it comes calling
this love, it comes in the night, for you and for me
im trying to prevent it, im stalling
i dont want it for me, not for me

The Witch of Portobello

"For Me, LOVE FILLS EVERYTHING. It cannot be desired because it is an end in itself. It cannot betray because it has nothing to do with possession. It cannot be held victim because it is a river and will overflow its banks. Anyone who tries to imprison love will cut off the spring that feeds it, and the trapped water will grow stagnant and rank."

Weave

We spin dreams from the nothingness of our minds. We look at each other and laugh because we have come so far, and we shouldnt have. Nothing that has happened should have. This sort of happiness is absurd, isnt it? This sort of knowledge gets us nowhere. I can write a book on you, but I'd sit here protecting my heart, than would let you read.
Running from somewhere and headlong into stupidity. I wish we'd continue like this. I think I believe in forever, however absurd it is. You say, you dont weave your own traps. I wonder who weaves mine.

Its funny how deep I am.

Written on the body...

"Love demands expression. It will not stay still, stay silent, be good, be modest, be seen and
not heard,no. It will break out in tongues of praise, the high note that smashes the glass and
spills the liquid. It is no conversationalist love. It is a big game hunter and you are the game A curse on this game. How can you stick at a game when the rules keep changing? I call myself
Alice and play croquet with the flamingos. In wonderland everyone cheats and love is
wonderland, isn't it
? Love makes the world go round. Love is blind. All you need is love. Nobody ever died of a broken heart, You'll get over it. It'll be different when we're married. Think of
the children Time's a great healer. Still waiting for Mr Right? Miss Right? and maybe all the
little Rights?
Its the cliches that cause the trouble. A precise emotion seeks a precise expression. If what I feel is not precise then should call I love? It is so terrifying, love, and all I can do is
shove is under a dump bin of pink cuddly toys and send myself a greeting card
saying"Congratulations on your Engagement". But I'm not engaged. I'm deeply distracted.I am desperately looking the other way so that love won't see me. I want the diluted version, the sloppy language, the insignificant gestures. The saggy armchair of cliches. It's all right, millions of bottoms have sat here before me. The springs are well worn, the fabric smelly and familiar. I don't have to be frightened, look. my grandma and grandad did it, now I will do it won't I, arms outstretched, not to hold you, just to keep my balance, sleepwalking to that armchair. How happy we will be. How happy everyone will be. And they all lived happily ever after. "

"You'll get over it..." It's the cliches that cause the trouble. To lose someone you love is
to alter your life forever. You don't get over it, because 'it' is the person you loved.the pain
stops, there are new people, but the gap never closes. How could it? The particular-ness of
someone who mattered enough to grieve over is not made anodyne by death. This hole in my heart is in the shape no one else can fit in. Why would I want them to ?
I've thought a lot about death recently, the finality of it, the argument ending in mid-air.
one of us hadn't finished, why did the other one go? And why without warning? even death after long illness is without warning. The moment you had prepared for so carefully took you by storm. The troops broke through the window and snatched the body and the body is gone. The day before the Wednesday last, this time a year ago, you were here and now you're not. Why not? Death reduces us to the baffled logic of a small child. If yesterday why not today? And where are you?
Fragile creatures of a small blue planet, surrounded by light years of silent space. Do the dead
find peace beyond the rattle of the world? What peace is there for us whose best love cannot
return them even for a day? I raise my head to the door and think I will see you in the frame. I
know it is your voice in the corridor but when I run outside, the corridor is empty. There is
nothing I can do that will make any difference. The last word was yours.
The fluttering in the stomach goes away and the dull waking pain. Sometimes I think of you and
I feel giddy. Memory makes me lightheaded, drunk on champagne. All the things we did. And if
anyone had said this was the price I would have agreed to pay it. That surprises me; that with the hurt and the mess comes a shaft of recognition. It was worth it. Love is worth it
."

"I miss you Louise. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. What then kills love? Only this: Neglect. Not to see you when you stand before me. Not to think of you in the little things. Not to make the road wide for you, the table spread for you. To choose you out
of habit not desire, to pass the flower seller without a thought. To leave the dishes unwashed,
the bed unmade, to ignore you in the mornings, make use of you at night. To crave another while pecking your cheek. To say your name without hearing it, to assume it is mine to call. "

"I've hidden those words in the lining of my coat. I take them out like a jewel thief when no one's watching. They haven't faded. Nothing about you has faded. You are still the color of my blood. You are my blood. When I look in the mirror, it's not my own face I see. Your body is twice. Once you once me. Can I be sure which is which."

Excerpts from "Written On The Body" by Jeannette Winterson.

the person falling here is me...

"And now I tell you openly -
You have my heart so don't hurt me
You’re what I couldn't find
A totally amazing mind
So understanding and so kind
You're everything to me "

Questions

Questions can be tricky. And I love asking questions. Maybe its something to do with my thirst for knowing a person and then psychoanalysing them. If I could, I'd fill all my conversations with questions, quirky questions, thoughtful ones, funny and downright personal. When sometimes in the middle of a conversation after the "What else ?" 's, I ask a question to you. All I want to do is to get to know you better than I do now.
SO, these are some of my favourite questions. Lets keep it to 10 as of now. I always keep thinkin up more!
  1. One thing you do when you're worried ?
  2. When was the last time you felt terrible about something someone did, which no way related to you, but you felt horrible?
  3. Crappiest book ever read?
  4. Funniest love song ever heard?
  5. Favourite literally character?
  6. Irrational childhood fear?
  7. Favourite picture?
  8. Favourite word?
  9. Best book read (of recent past) ?
  10. When was the time you felt utterly and totally insignificant?

And since I love writing and talking (about myself) I shall answer them as well!!! LOL!

  1. I put on music, any type and belt out the lyrics as loud as the singer... (not half as musically I'm afraid).
  2. When I read about the 19 year old who tried to stab her day old baby to death using a ice-pick. The only time I also wanted to cry while reading the newspaper.
  3. Oh, definitely, "A Painted House" by John Grisham .... I could never get myself to read another John Grisham after that. My mother tells me Im missing out on some real good literature, but I'm afraid of anything half as horrible as "A Painted House".
  4. "Accidentally In Love" by the Counting Crows... not exactly funny, but it makes me laugh.
  5. "Kabir Durrani", the unsuitable lover from Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy.
  6. Everytime we had to go on a trip that involved a train journey, I would always be certain that either we would miss it, or that we would leave our luggage behind in the train!
  7. Is a picture of Dad, mom, my brother and me on a picnic... along with the picture perfect rug and picnic basket!
  8. "Iridescence" which is an optical phenomenon characterized as the property of surfaces in which hue changes according to the angle from which the surface is viewed. Rainbow colors, if you may.
  9. "The Kite Runner"
  10. Everytime during rush hour at Dadar Station, on the bridge....there is an ocean of people hurrying and pushing past each other in an attempt to be there first... I feel so non-existent at that time.

Hmm, I love questions... Just not the ones that appear periodically on black and white papers, and have marks alloted next to them!!

Ecstasy

According to "The Witch of Portobello ", Paulo Coelho, ecstasy comes from a Greek word and means standing outside yourself. Its such a temptation laden word. I dont know why, but writers and authors use the word "ecstasy" to talk about making love, dancing in luxuriant waves , or being under the influence of substances, This is shoddy writing that Im writing, but someday when I know more about ecstasy, Ill write better.

"I can feel a pleasure, that's the pain
When I die, I died in vain
I can hear sweet temptations come
Come with me and we will fall

Ecstasy, misunderstood
Will you dance with me
As if I should?
And in the morning
The sun will shine
Still I can't shake her
Get out of my mind..."

Oh life, its bigger..

my blog seems like a shrine to this song...

As the world falls down...

As the world falls down, and the stars turn black,
as the roots of our foundations crumble and we turn,
towards each other for compassion and struggle to smile,
as the world falls down, love is what we will learn.
And sinews grow anew, and feelings are forgotten,
bones that are brittle no longer bend lovingly to you,
You could fall back on me, and as the world falls down,
I will always turn to you.
Maybe one day when no one understands this avalanche of trust,
and we can't explain to ourselves what it is, this happiness,
And as it all snaps, and great crumbling boulders of disparity,
I will always turn to you, amidst all the hurtful mess.
And rebuilding together, while wines grow old,
Laughing and twinkling like wound-up-toys, and smiling with ease ,
While we see me falling, and you save,
When the world falls down, save me please.
