casablanca

Parents influence, among many other things our choices for music when we are growing up. Before the acid rock hits us and before the music volumes are unbearable for our parents. I remember my father played his favourites and my mom and dad slow-danced to "Beautiful Tonight" by Eric Clapton every so often.
There are many beautiful songs that remind me of him, and I like Wham!, or The Police, or Bryan Adams because these are the songs I grew up listening to.
Theres this sweet song tucked away in memory I love listening to. Its called Casablanca, by Bertie Higgins (or Frank Sinatra) depends on the version you can find online.
Its so cute, do listen to it!

"I fell in love with you watching Casablanca
Back row of the drive in show in the flickering light
Popcorn and cokes beneath the stars became champagne and caviar
Making love on a long hot summers night

I thought you fell in love with me watching Casablance
Holding hands 'neath the paddle fans in Rick's Candle lit cafe
Hiding in the shadows from the spies. Moroccan moonlight in your eyes
Making magic at the movies in my old chevrolet

Oh! A kiss is still a kiss in Casablanca,
But a kiss is not a kiss without your sigh.
Please come back to me in Casablanca,
I love you more and more each day as time goes by"

so cute!

OOOH!

"Into the distance, a ribbon of black
Stretched to the point of no turning back
A flight of fancy on a windswept field
Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction is holding me fast
How can I escape this irresistible grasp?

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Ice is forming on the tips of my wings
Unheeded warnings, I thought I thought of everything
No navigator to find my way home
Unladen, empty and turned to stone
A soul in tension that's learning to fly
Condition grounded but determined to try

Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I

Above the planet on a wing and a prayer,
My grubby halo, a vapour trail in the empty air
Across the clouds I see my shadow fly
Out of the corner of my watering eye
A dream unthreatened by the morning light
Could blow this soul right through the roof of the night
There's no sensation to compare with this
Suspended animation, a state of bliss

Can't keep my mind from the circling skies
Tongue-tied and twisted just an earthbound misfit, I"

Pink Floyd, Learning To Fly.

Now, today I think this song is apt. Things are changing and I'm on the threshold of a monumentous change in my life. And I'm frightened because the road ahead is unknown. (I feel so melodramatic!) But its a big thing! I'm starting WORK! LOL! And, I'm learning to fly.
There's a song for everything, isnt there!

Def Leppard- Love Bites

This is, according to me, The Reason why God sent Def Lep to Earth!!! Seriously, were you to have half an ear, and love for 80's slow rock, this would be YOUR fav song as well. Its just so awesome.
I remember seeing it this August on Vh1, and for a song that released in 1987, thts something!
Someone on sing365.com reviewed it like this, and I couldn't have said it better myself!

" Love Bites is so sexy and alluring as my title says. A concert I recently attended definitely showed the electricity with this song. Every woman that had a mate was busy grinding them and was so into the lyrics of the song. The song is so magical and can transform a woman into an animal!!! "

Hmm, now this person got a lil graphic, but its true!
My fav lines are these- I love the way they've been sung

"I don't wanna touch you too much baby
'Cos making love to you might drive me crazy
I know you think that love is the way you make it
So I don't wanna be there when you decide to break it

No!"

Actually this entire song is one long sigh! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhhhhh....

this is the album Hysteria ('87) one of their best.

hush, hush, darlin

Last night I had a dream, a recurring one if u please. About this little boy who is running and running straight at me. Crying like the little child he is. And I don't know who he is, but my heart goes out to him, so I hug him and try to placate him into being calm. But he's hurt, and so he's pouring his heart out. And so moved am I, that I begin to tear up as well. I woke up with a jolt. I wish he'd stop crying first.

music in my ears...

This is something that I've always wondered. If people wear headphones all the time while travelling, doesn't it take away from hearing the myriad sounds of the streets. As I walk to college in the morning, I see people with headphones beginning from their ears and their wires snaking into pant-pockets. Don't they want to hear what all they miss out? The streets are alive with sounds of the city. (LOL! Hey I dont live in Austria like her!) The birds frantically calling out, the hurried cars whizzing about, the friends on a morning walk, the little school children discussing homework ("5 ka table likhna tha..."), the lovers' early morning spat...all these sounds, would you want to miss them out?

Now, as far as music lovers go, I'm a pretty big one. My "first thing in the morning" is to put on my stereo (AAH! the joys of sleeping alone!)... and I HAVE to HAVE my 'current favorite track' playing in the background at all times. But I've lost track of the times I've declined the "Beta, chuck the cell phone, Ill get you an I pod instead". (Which I still think is a rather crappy thing, whatever you say!)...And I don't have a music phone either (I will ALWAYS love you Bobo, the cutest cell phone in the world!), but I don't want to belong to the people who do that. Walk around with music in their ears.

The primary reason I write this, is because, travelling is when I actually think. And read. I come up with most of my blog entries while walking. With most of my poems, and almost every weird idea that I get. I love walking and talking to myself. Its a very therapeutic thing. According to Paulo Coelho, a simple thing like that is akin to speaking with your angel (The Valkyries). So I'd like to not have music then.

And read. What IS better than reading the heavy book to and fro college/class/etc, wherever? I remember lugging around Seth's A Suitable Boy for 3 weeks everywhere I went. (1349 pages, hardbound-NOT a small job!). Fewer things are better than a long bus journey, a comfortable seat, and a good book. (Just remember to tell the Conductor to tell you when to get down... I speak from Experience!).

Now, all this might change were I to be flashy enough to carry a I pod, or whatever is the IN thing currently as of 5/10/2007... or to have a phone with my music collection. When does the mind wander off to un-thought-of things? When do I read the ever growing stack of books I must? Oh, Lord, when do I think of the dearly beloved as well? And most importantly, when do I come up with entries as senseless as this?

LILIAN

oooh, please do listen to this song. Its ...plaintive. (oo!) Its not the song I was looking for, but Depeche Mode's good, and this guys singing in a very low voice. Its sexy.

Oh, Lilian
Look what you've done
You've stripped my heart
Ripped it apart
In the name of fun

Oh, Lilian
I'm a poor man's son
And precious jewels
Weren't found in schools
Where I came from

Pain and misery always hit the spot
Knowing you can't lose what you haven't got

Oh, Lilian
I should have run
I should have known
Each dress you own
Is a loaded gun

Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian

I need protection
I hear your voice
And any choice I had is gone

Oh, Lilian
Once I begun
I couldn't stop
'til every drop of blood was sung

Pain and misery always hit the spot
Knowing you can't lose what you haven't got

Oh, Lilian
Look what you've done
You stripped my heart
Ripped it apart
In the name of fun

Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian
Oh, Lilian

a lovely love song.

I don't want a break-up sad song. I want to find a song about being in love. I want to write a song about being loved. How is it that I'm searching for a new favourite song? I don't want a song where she's sad, or he's sad. I want to find a simple sweet song about both of them being happy that they are in love. Nothing to do with pain. Nothing to do with longing. Nothing to do with being "too far away". I want to find a song where they're just happy. No "Stay here tonight". Why have people stopped writing about love? And if they do, why aren't they happy about it?
Something beautiful. Something about strumming guitars. Something about you. Why doesnt my brain function like it used to once upon a time. I never thought about you, but I could've written the most beautiful love song. Now all it does, is think of you, and come up with crappy poems. I cant call myself a poet anymore. And thus, I search the internet.
How saddening is it?

oh, lilian.

i like.

Now I like this. I like this part of the day. Early evening, no one home, no one online, nothing of importance to do other than blog. and listen to music. and read. Sometimes go out into the world. But if you know me you know how much I'd rather sit at home and think.

Another part of the day I really like is after dinner. Everyone retires into their own rooms, and since I've long given up on TV, I sit in my cubby-hole sweetheart, and listen to music. Just that. Sometimes Coldplay, sometimes cranberries. Occasionally in the dark as well. And I try to write. Because someone told me "Find out what you want to do, and go out and do it." This was when I was hopelessly wailing to him that my life lacks direction. (the whole "I'm lost" teenage sob story). But he's so patient to hear me out. I like him for that. A lot.

I like Yellow. By Coldplay. Yesterday, I put it on repeat and forgot all about everything else. What a lovely song. Though I still don't know why exactly yellow, but its just right. It makes sense. Coldplay is a band you listen listen to relentlessly, forget all about them, and suddenly suddenly, you WANT to listen to them. And so you rush, to your computer, or wherever you keep your music and since you must, you're lost in them again.

"I like you. I do love you, or that is what I tell myself, but I do like you too. "
The first time I realised there was a difference between liking and loving was when I was 12 and heard a song by Right Said Fred. It went like this "We love you but we don't like ya,/Don't like ya, don't like ya,/We love you but we don't like ya."
And that's when I figured there was a difference. I just presumed liking someone a lot, lot led you to loving them. But that's not how it is. At least not now. Childhood is a distorted place. Anyways, you could love someone and not like them. At least you wouldn't like them if you didn't already love them. Like family. If you weren't taught to love all family, come hell or high water, would you? Would you be friends with all your cousins if you had a choice? But currently, you love them.
OK, enough with love.

I like stringy yellow lights. Somehow I have never liked the colourful ones people put up. The ones that go "Green-Blue-Red-Yellow FLASH FLASH Green-B-Y-R FLASH thrice now". I like the ones that stay bulb yellow, are tiny and don't do jiggly dances. They're more romantic.

I like Michael Hutchence. One of my "Self Deserved Treats For Great Efforts Put In To Be A Good Girl" include listening to "Beautiful Girl" by INXS at full volume. Aaaaah! To have lived on this planet and not have listened to Michael Hutchence croon. How devastating! (OK, I know I'm going overboard).

oh, wht a colossal waste of time. But like I said, I like this

down down down down down down

the nearness of you

"Distance is no obstacle to love. In the ocean depths blue whales send sonic serenades across thousands of sonar miles. When two hearts are apart, they are still indissolubly joined, just as "twin compasses are two" separated to trace out different circles yet never doubting they will be reunited. Love is so loyal that it does not need to be present to prove it. Love knows that moments of aloneness refresh and reinforce it; it passes the surest test "for a bond between two people :that each protects the solitude of the other."

Love- the feel good factor
